Kia Spectra- More detail on the detail with KC

This Kia Spectra was the second ride which was detailed by KC and myself. The first one went well enough and we expected to knock this one out in a couple of hours.... how wrong we were.

This is the state we found the car in.

After many hours we got it to this...

Read more after the link.

The son of the owner was actually KC's old friend who got in touch with him again after reading about our Ferrari detail (http://prodetailing.blogspot.com/2009/11/ferrari-f355.html) on the Italia Auto forum. He had a Fiat Punto HGT which he wanted to detail but asked us to detail his father's ride first for the coming Chinese New Year celebrations.

This was the second detail of the day after the Toyota Rush (http://prodetailing.blogspot.com/2010/02/toyota-rush-detailed-with-kc.html). That detail went quite well and we were expecting this to be a simple job as well but it would prove to be anything but simple.

This was how we found the car.

The paint was very faded and oxidized but you can tell that the owner wanted to look after the car as the engine bay was the cleanest I have ever seen on a daily driver.

Keep in mind that this was how we found the engine when we got there. Really well kept!!!

The owner also wanted us to see if we could remove some paint splatter that was caused when the neighbor was painting his wall.

Tried many methods to remove the paint but finally decided to lightly wetsand the spots off as it was taking waaaaaayyyyy too long to remove.

The state of the hood under halogens.

There was also some etching caused by a bird dropping and what I suspect are marks inflicted during the removal of the said etching.
Always remove the crap immediately!!!

Taped off for a 50/50.

Went with M105/So1o Burgundy Wool/Rotary x 2.

Scratches from the bird poo removal still present after compounding.
More deep scratches found near the windshield washer nozzle.
Carried out some light wet sanding to reduce the amount of scratches visible.

Sanding marks removed by compounding.

Uncorrected.
50/50.

While I was taking care of the hood, KC was doing his thing with the glass.

Pretty bad water marks on all of the windows.
Taped up for a 50/50.

Pretty amazing before and after.

Before...
After KC has done his thing.

I took care of the headlights while KC was busy compounding the rest of the car.

Well and truly faded.
Wetsanded with 2000 grit.
Somehow or other was too preoccupied and forgot to take a closeup after shot of the headlight but you can see the clarity has been restored in these after shots.

M105 followed by M80/W8006/Rotary. LSP NXT 2.0 + UQD.

Final shot. Note the 50/50 on KC's Nissan Two-Face (http://thedetailers.blogspot.com/2009/09/nissan-sunny-aka-two-face.html).

Thanks to KC for inviting me along. It was tiring but very satisfying....

Happy Chinese New Year!!!
