After completing a Porsche Design Edition 1 Cayman detail a couple of weeks ago...

I met up again with my detailing buddy KC to detail one of Stuttgart's finest, the Porsche 911 GT3.

KC arrived first and started with the usual Optimum No Rinse (ONR) wash.

Clay with ONR lube.

Wheels detailed with ONR, Optimum Power Clean, Opti-Seal, Optimum Car Wax and tires dressed with Optimum Tire Shine.

When I arrived KC was already done with the ONR wash, clay and the wheels.

As the owner of the GT3 lived in a condo, this detail was carried out in the basement car park. The ONR was most useful as it allowed us to wash the GT3 in the car park itself. Although there was not much water on the ground from the ONR wash we thought it would be best to absorb what little there was with some old newspapers.

The GT3 looked pretty good when we last saw it a few weeks ago.

However, a more thorough inspection revealed some issues with the paint which required some attention.

Swirls and some minor RIDS (Random Isolated Deep Scratches) found throughout the paintwork.

A test area was done to identify the least aggressive method for achieving the desired results.

Compounding: Meguiar's M105 w/ foam cutting pad.
Polishing: Optimum Polish II w/ foam polishing pad.
Finishing: Optimum Finish w/ foam finishing pad.

All carried out with a Makita 9227C Rotary.

Overall the paint condition was not too bad and KC commented that this is the first time he has not had to use a wool cutting pad for removing the defects.

The boot spoiler was taped off for a 50/50.

The original condition of the paint had a grey/whitish tinge to it almost as if the car was covered in film. The correction really brought back the depth and clarity of the black paint.

Tighter areas were corrected using smaller foam pads.

The GT3 was also wrapped with protective film on the nose and other exposed areas of the car. The owner specifically requested for us to remove the old polish/wax residue from the edges of the protective film.

This was carried out by carefully claying the edge of the film.

The protective film was also corrected with Optimum Polish II w/ foam polishing pad/ rotary and Meguiar's PlastX w/ foam polishing pad/ ROB.

The paint was protected with Optimum Opti-Seal and Optimum Car Wax.
